Another Canadian is out with a significant injury in the National Basketball Association. We have recently talked about London, Ontario’s Shaedon Sharpe of the Portland Trail Blazers (broken leg), Mississauga, Ontario’s Dillon Brooks of the Phoenix Suns (broken hand), and Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Toronto, Ontario (who recently returned to playing from an abdominal injury).
Now it is time to talk about Memphis Grizzlies center Zach Edey of Toronto. In December, we talked about the fact that Edey would miss a month with an ankle injury.
Now Edey will miss the rest of the 2025-26 NBA season with ankle surgery. In fact, he only played 11 games all season with Memphis this year. Edey was very productive in the games he did play. He averaged 13.6 points per game and 11.1 rebounds per game. Edey also has 1.9 blocks per game, 1.1 assists per game, a field goal percentage of .633, free throw percentage of .781, and three point percentage of .200.
The Grizzlies are currently in 11th place in the Western Conference at 23 wins and 38 losses. It is fair to say that they are out of playoff contention at the moment. Memphis is six games back of the Portland Trail Blazers for the 10th spot in the West, and for the final spot in the play-in tournament.Â
The other significant injury in Memphis belongs to Ja Morant, who is out with an elbow ailment. Morant, who has had significant legal issues throughout his career, has only played 20 games himself, and is averaging 19.5 points per game.
