April 19, 2022

Jordan Spieth of Dallas, Texas won the 2022 RBC Heritage Classic in Hilton Head, South Carolina for his first win of the 2022 PGA Tour season. The three-time major champion won in a playoff over 2021 FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay after shooting a four-round score of -13.
Spieth had rounds of two-under-par 69 in round one, three-under-par 68 in round two, three-under-par 68 in round three, and five-under-par 66 in round four. In the playoff, Spieth was victorious on the first hole with a score of par. Cantlay, meanwhile bogeyed the playoff hole.
In the 72 holes of golf during the tournament, Spieth registered three eagles. He eagled the par-five 15th hole in round three, and then eagled the par-five second and fifth holes in round four on Sunday. With the win, Spieth has now jumped 10 spots in the Official World Golf Rankings from 20th in the world to 10th.

This was Spieth’s 13th career win on the PGA Tour. It is a little ironic because he had a winning score of -13 at Hilton Head. This was also Spieth’s fifth career PGA Tour win in a playoff. He previously beat two-time major champion Zach Johnson of the United States and David Hearn of Canada to win the 2013 John Deere Classic, Americans Sean O’Hair and 2018 Masters champion Patrick Reed to win the 2015 Valspar Championship, American Tom Gillis to win the 2015 John Deere Classic, and American Daniel Berger to win the 2017 Travelers Championship.
Spieth actually went almost four years without winning on the PGA Tour from winning the 2017 British Open to the 2021 Valero Texas Open. In the 2020 PGA Tour season, there were significant questions regarding Spieth’s play as he missed the cut at the U.S. Open, finished 46th at the Masters and 71st at the PGA Championship.
