For the second straight week there was a stunning upset on Thursday Night Football. A week ago, the San Francisco 49ers beat the Los Angeles Rams 26-23 in overtime as an 8.5 point underdog. Then on October 9, the New York Giants stunned the Philadelphia Eagles 34-17 as a 7.5 point home underdog.
The Giants offensive star was rookie running back Cameron Skattebo of Rio Linda, California. Skattebo, who was the Giants’s fourth round pick, 105th overall, out of Arizona State, was an absolute beast. He had 19 rushes for 98 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns, along with two catches for 12 receiving yards. Skattebo had the last three touchdowns in the game as he scored from four yards and had two one yard major scores. It should be noted that Skattebo outperformed former Giants running back Saquon Barkley, who now calls Philadelphia home. Barkley was limited to 67 total yards.
It was also a steady performance by Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart, who was a strong game manager. He completed 17 of 25 passes for 195 passing yards and one touchdown pass, along with 13 rushes for 58 rushing yards and another major score.
What impressed me the most about the Giants on Thursday was their positive attitude and swagger. This is something we literally have not seen from this football team in a decade, and all of a sudden it came in prime time against the defending Super Bowl champions.
The Eagles have now lost two straight games. After going 4-0, they were also beaten last week by the Denver Broncos 21-18. Denver scored 18 fourth quarter points to win.
