2024 San Francisco 49ers Projected Finish, Key Signings and Fantasy Stars

In the 28th of a 32-part series, we are featuring all National Football League teams with a prediction of where each team will finish within their division, key off-season acquisitions and their top fantasy stars. Here are the San Francisco 49ers.

Key Off Season Acquisitions

The 49ers signed two notable free agents in the offseason. They were defensive ends Leonard Floyd of Atlanta, Georgia and Yetur Gross-Matos of Spotsylvania Courthouse, Virginia.

Floyd signed a two-year deal worth $20 million, and Gross-Matos signed a two-year deal worth $18 million. Floyd previously played four seasons with the Chicago Bears (2016 to 2019), three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams (2020 to 2022), and one season with the Buffalo Bills (2023). While with the Rams, Floyd won a Super Bowl. In 2023 with the Bills, Floyd had 32 combined tackles (21 solo tackles and 11 assisted tackles), nine tackles for a loss, 19 quarterback hits, 10.5 sacks, one pass deflection, and one forced fumble.

Gross-Matos signed a two-year deal worth $18 million. He played the last four seasons with the Carolina Panthers. In 2023, he had 36 combined tackles (19 solo tackles and 17 assisted tackles), seven tackles for a loss, 10 quarterback hits, and 4.5 sacks.

To continue with the defensive theme, the 49ers acquired defensive tackle Maliek Collins of Kansas City, Kansas from the Houston Texans for a seventh round draft pick in 2024. The 49ers will be the fourth NFL team Collins has played with as he has also played with the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders. In 2023, Collins had 41 combined tackles (19 solo tackles and 22 assisted tackles), eight tackles for a loss, five sacks and one pass deflection. The pass deflection came in a 23-19 Texans win over the Indianapolis Colts on January 6.

Fantasy Stars

Brock Purdy of Queen Creek, Arizona is ranked 10th among quarterbacks. Purdy, a Pro Bowler in 2023, completed 308 passes in 408 attempts, for 4280 passing yards, 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Purdy had a NFL high 113 quarterback rating. He also had 39 rushes for 144 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. Purdy’s rushing touchdowns came in a 30-23 49ers win over the Los Angeles Rams on September 17 (1 yard), and in a 35-16 49ers win over the Arizona Cardinals on October 1 (one yard).

Running back Christian McCaffrey of Castle Rock, Colorado is the number one running back in fantasy football. He had 272 rushes for a NFL-high 1459 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns in 2024, to go along with 67 catches for 564 receiving yards and seven touchdown catches.

Deebo Samuel Sr. of Inman, South Carolina is ranked eighth among wide receivers. Last year he had 60 catches for 892 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Tight end George Kittle of Madison, Wisconsin is ranked fourth. Last year, he had 65 catches for 1020 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

As a rookie in 2023, Jake Moody of Commerce, Michigan had a fine season, and is ranked 10th among kickers. He made 21 of 25 field goals, and a NFL-high 60 of 61 converts.

Projected Finish

The 49ers are one of the elite teams in the NFL. Last year they went to the Super Bowl and lost a tight game to the Kansas City Chiefs. Offensively, they are a powerhouse, and solid at every fantasy position. Their 298 points allowed were the least in the NFC. If healthy, the 49ers will go back to the Super Bowl and win it. They are the heavy favourites to win the NFC West.
