Will Zalatoris wins 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship
August 16, 2022
Will Zalatoris of San Francisco, California has won his first career PGA event. On Sunday in Memphis, Tennessee, Zalatoris shot a four-round score of -15 to beat 2022 Honda Classic winner Sepp Straka of Vienna, Austria in a three-hole playoff  at the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship.
In the final playoff hole, it appeared that Zalatoris had hit the ball into the water on the 11th hole. However, he got a fortunate bounce, and the ball was wedged between the grass and the stone wall. Straka then teed off, and the ball landed in the water. Straka then went into the bunker from the drop zone, while Zalatoris landed on the green, and made his winning bogey putt.
Zalatoris’s most notable shot came on the second playoff hole. There he made a long par putt on the 18th hole to extend the playoff.

Two other golfers were in contention. Lucas Glover of Greenville, South Carolina, the 2009 United States Open champion, and Brian Harman of Savannah, Georgia, were tied for third place at -12 and three strokes back of Zalatoris and Straka.
Prior to the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship, Zalatoris had been in two prior playoffs during the calendar year. He lost to Luke List in the Farmers Insurance Open and then to Justin Thomas in the PGA Championship.Â
This was the first weekend of the 2022 FedEx Cup Playoffs. They will continue next weekend in Wilmington, Delaware, and then the following week in Atlanta, Georgia. The top 70 golfers from the FedEx St. Jude Championship qualify for the BMW Championship in Delaware. Then the top 30 golfers qualify for the Tour Championship in Atlanta.
