Trae Young delivers remarkable buzzer beater in Hawks win over Jazz
January 10, 2025

Things have not been all that smooth for Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young of Lubbock, Texas the last couple of seasons. He did not get along with former coach Nate McMillan, missed significant time last season with hand surgery, and was fined $60,000 for his behaviour toward officials.
However, on Tuesday in a 124-121 Hawks win over the Utah Jazz, we saw the greatness that Young can bring to the table. The three-time NBA All-Star made a 49 foot Hail Mary, three-point buzzer beater. It was the longest buzzer beater of the season, and gave the Hawks a three-point win.
This was also the third buzzer beater in Young’s career. He accomplished the feat first by making an 11 foot field goal in overtime on March 31, 2019 in a 136-135 Hawks win over the Milwaukee Bucks. Then on February 26, 2023, Young made a 12 foot field goal in a 129-127 Hawks win over the Brooklyn Nets.
Young has had a solid season for Atlanta in 2024-25. He is actually leading the entire NBA with 427 assists and 12.2 assists per game. Young is no stranger to dishing out the basketball on a regular basis. He led the NBA with 737 assists during the 2021-22 season, and with 741 assists in 2022-23.
It was Young’s clutch shooting that was on display in Salt Lake City on Tuesday. Young is an elite shooter too. Only three seasons ago, he led the NBA with 2155 points.
Atlanta is currently at 19 wins and 18 losses for a winning percentage of .514. They are tied with the Miami Heat and Detroit Pistons for the seventh best winning percentage in the Eastern Conference.
