Top five pairings for the 2024 PGA Championship

The second major of the 2024 golf season begins on Thursday with the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. This will be the fourth PGA Championship all-time at the club. Past winners include Mark Brooks of Fort Worth, Texas (1996), Tiger Woods of Cypress, California (2000), and Rory McIlroy of Holywood, Northern Ireland (2014). Here are the five top pairings for the first two rounds.
5) Collin Morikawa/Phil Mickelson/Matt Fitzpatrick
This group has three major champions. Morikawa of Los Angeles, California, won the 2020 PGA Championship and 2021 British Open. Mickelson of San Diego, California has won six major titles. They are the 2004, 2006 and 2010 Masters, the 2005 and 2021 PGA Championship, and 2013 British Open. Fitzpatrick of Sheffield, England won the 2022 United States Open.
4) Brooks Koepka/Max Homa/Jordan Spieth
This trio contains two major champions. Koepka of West Palm Beach, Florida is a five-time major champion. He won the 2017 and 2018 United States Open, and the 2018, 2019 and 2023 PGA Championship. Spieth of Dallas, Texas, is a three-time major champion as he won the 2015 Masters and United States Open, and 2017 British Open. Meanwhile Homa of Burbank, California is the world number nine, and has won six PGA events, but none in 2024.
3) Rory McIlroy/Dustin Johnson/Justin Rose
This trio are also all major winners. McIlroy of Holywood, Northern Ireland won the 2011 United States Open, 2012 and 2014 PGA Championship and 2014 British Open. Johnson won the 2016 United States Open and 2020 Masters, and Rose won the 2013 United States Open.
2) Cameron Smith/Hideki Matsuyama/Viktor Hovland
Here we have three elite golfers from three different continents. Smith of Brisbane, Australia, Oceania won the 2022 British Open. Matsuyama of Matsuyama, Japan, Asia won the 2021 Masters, and Hovland of Oslo, Norway, Europe is the world number seven.
1) Wyndham Clark/Scottie Scheffler/Brian Harman
This group has the major champions over the last year not the PGA Championship. Wyndham Clark of Denver, Colorado won the 2023 United States Open, Harman of Savannah, Georgia won the 2023 British Open, and Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey won the 2024 Masters. He also won the 2022 Masters.
