The third major of the 2026 golf season is soon to be underway. Here are the top five groups for the United States Open at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York.
5) J.J. Spaun/ Scottie Scheffler/ Mason Howell (A)
This group consists of world number one Scottie Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey, the 2025 United States Open champion J.J. Spaun of Los Angeles, California and 2025 United States Amateur champion Mason Howell of Moultrie, Georgia. Scheffler has won four major championships but never the U.S. Open. He won the 2022 and 2024 Masters, the 2025 PGA Championship and 2025 British Open.
4) Dustin Johnson/Wyndham Clark/Gary Woodland
All three of these golfers are American major champions and have won the U.S. Open in the past. Dustin Johnson of Columbia, South Carolina won the 2016 United States Open and the 2020 Masters. Gary Woodland of Topeka, Kansas won the 2019 United States Open, and Wyndham Clark of Denver, Colorado won the 2023 United States Open.
3) Aaron Rai/Collin Morikawa/Jason Day
All three golfers in this group have won the PGA Championship in the past. Aaron Rai of Wolverhampton, England is the latest major champion as he won the 2026 PGA Championship. Collin Morikawa of Los Angeles, California has won two major championships as he won the 2020 PGA Championship and the 2021 British Open. Jason Day of Beaudesert, Australia won the 2015 PGA Championship.
2) Justin Thomas/Hideki Matsuyama/Xander Schauffele
There are a total of five major championships in this group. Justin Thomas of Louisville, Kentucky won the 2017 and 2022 PGA Championship. Xander Schauffele of San Diego, California won the 2024 PGA Championship and 2024 British Open. Hideki Matsuyama of Matsuyama, Japan won the 2021 Masters.
1) Justin Rose/Jordan Spieth/Jon Rahm
Finally, there a total of six major championships in this group. Jordan Spieth of Dallas, Texas won the 2015 Masters, the 2015 United States Open and the 2017 British Open. Jon Rahm of Barrika, Spain won the 2021 United States Open and 2023 Masters. Justin Rose of London, England won the 2013 United States Open.
