We now have 16 players left in the men’s draw and 16 players left in the women’s draw at the 2026 United States Open. Here are the eight best fourth round matches.
(1) Alexander Zverev–GER vs. (21) Luciano Darderi–ITA
Zverev won the 2026 French Open, and has a clear sailing to the final. However, one must realize he has already been on the tennis court in his last three matches for 11 hours and 52 minutes. In the fourth round, his opponent will be Luciano Darderi of Italy. Darderi made the fourth round of the Australian Open and the quarterfinals of Montreal this year. Head-to-head, Zverev and Darderi have beaten each other once. Zverev won 7-6, 6-2 in the third round of Rome in 2024, and Darderi upset Zverev 1-6, 7-6, 6-0 in the fourth round of Rome in 2026. Darderi is the only player to bagel Zverev this season.
(2) Elena Rybakina–KAZ vs. (13) Naomi Osaka–JPN
In a battle of grand slam tennis champions, Rybakina won Wimbledon in 2022 and the Australian Open in 2026. Osaka won the 2018 and 2020 United States Open and 2019 and 2021 Australian Open. Rybakina won their only prior match, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, in the fourth round of Toronto last month.
(2) Carlos Alcaraz–ESP vs. (20) Tommy Paul–USA
Alcaraz is a seven-time grand slam champion already. Paul reached the semifinals of the 2023 Australian Open. Alcaraz has won six of eight meetings head-to-head, including a 7-6, 6-4, 7-5 win in the fourth round of the Australian Open this year.
(6) Linda Noskova–CZE vs. Marta Kostyuk–UKR
Noskova won Wimbledon earlier this summer. Kostyuk reached the semifinals of the 2026 French Open and Wimbledon. They have beaten each other once. Kostyuk won 7-6, 6-0 in the quarterfinals of Madrid in 2026, and Noskova won 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals of Wimbledon in 2026.
(7) Daniil Medvedev–RUS vs. (11) Frances Tiafoe–USA
Medvedev won the 2021 United States Open. Tiafoe reached the semifinals of the 2022 and 2024 United States Open. Medvedev has won six of seven meetings head-to-head, including a 6-3, 6-2 win in the second round of Brisbane in January.
(8) Iga Swiatek–POL vs. Qinwen Zheng–CHN
Swiatek is a six-time grand slam champion, and Zheng reached the 2024 Australian Open final. Swiatek has won seven of eight matches head-to-head.
(8) Ben Shelton–USA vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas–GRE
Shelton reached the semifinals of the United States Open in 2023 and the Australian Open in 2025. Tsitsipas reached the final of the 2021 French Open and 2023 Australian Open. Tsitsipas won their only prior meeting, 7-6, 7-6, in the second round of Cincinnati in 2023.
(14) Learner Tien–USA vs. Karen Khachanov–RUS
Tien made the quarterfinals of the 2026 Australian Open and the semifinals of Montreal. Khachanov made the semifinals of the 2022 United States Open and the 2023 Australian Open. This is their first ever meeting.
