May 9, 2025
The Oklahoma City Thunder must have been very upset with their game one loss to the Denver Nuggets on Monday. As a result we saw an offensive explosion for the ages which tied the best out of seven series at one game apiece.
The Thunder clobbered the Nuggets in game two by a score of 149-106. It was the most points the Thunder ever scored in a playoff game. The previous record was 133 which was set on May 22, 2016 in a 133-105 Oklahoma City win over the Golden State Warriors in game three of the 2016 Western Conference Finals.
The Nuggets also allowed the third most points in a playoff game in franchise history. They lost 153-109 to the Los Angeles Lakers on May 22, 1985, and 152-133 to the San Antonio Spurs on April 26, 1983.
We are not done with records set. The Thunder also tied the NBA record for most points in a single half in a playoff game with 87. By the 24 minute mark, Oklahoma City had a commanding 87-56 lead. The Thunder tied the record previously set by the Milwaukee Bucks, who scored 87 second half points in a 143-112 win over the Nuggets on April 23, 1978.
The Thunder player who starred in the first half was Canadian guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Toronto, Ontario, who had 18 points. He finished the game with a team-high 34 points.
There were a total of eight Thunder players who reached double digits in total points.
