Richmond has landed Port Adelaide’s pick No.5 in a trade agreed on Wednesday, AFL.com.au reported, giving the Tigers the second and fifth selections in this year’s national draft. Port receives Richmond’s 2027 first-, second- and fourth-round picks plus this year’s pick 22, with the deal set to be processed on Deadline Day afternoon.
The Power’s pick No.5 was the free-agency compensation selection Port received for losing star midfielder Zak Butters to the Western Bulldogs. AFL.com.au said the clubs agreed the swap on Wednesday, and AFL Media’s Callum Twomey reported the deal was done and would be processed later in the afternoon as the trade period closes at 7:30pm AEDT.
According to the terms published by AFL.com.au, Richmond gets pick No.5, while Port gets Richmond’s 2027 round-one pick, 2027 round-two pick, 2027 round-four pick and this year’s pick 22.
That leaves the Tigers holding two selections inside the top five for the national draft on Thursday 19 and Friday 20 November, pairing their existing pick No.2 with the newly secured No.5.

Why Port sold the pick
Port has been shopping the compensation pick after the mega trade and Butters free-agency outcome left it with enough points to match early bids without needing No.5. AFL.com.au said the Power now hold three first-round picks for next year as they prepare to match bids on father-son prospect Louis Salopek and Academy prospect Zemes Pilot.
While the 2027 draft is compromised by Tasmania’s entry, AFL.com.au noted Richmond’s future first-rounder could still land among the top few picks if the Tigers’ rebuild continues.
