AFL trade deadline day has arrived, with Nick Murray, Keidean Coleman and Port Adelaide’s pick 5 among the deals still to be done before the 2026 trade period closes at 7:30pm AEDT on Wednesday. Clubs can lodge trades at any time, but the AFL will not process them until 2pm AEDT, according to AFL.com.au.
Four deals were completed on Tuesday, the penultimate day of the period. Nick Blakey joined North Melbourne from Sydney, Lachie Whitfield moved from GWS to Carlton, Zane Duursma went from North Melbourne to Melbourne and Flynn Riley crossed from Carlton to Collingwood, as ABC Sport recapped.
Murray and Coleman go down to the wire
North Melbourne has tabled its 2027 first-round pick and pick 33 for contracted Adelaide defender Nick Murray, but the Crows want a top-20 pick this year to consider a deal, AFL.com.au‘s Riley Beveridge and Callum Twomey reported. Pick 33 is the selection North landed for Duursma, and the Roos don’t have many other assets that would appeal to Adelaide.
Keidean Coleman wants to join Essendon, but the clubs are stuck on price. AFL.com.au and Fox Sports both reported the Bombers have offered pick 27, while Brisbane wants pick 17, which Essendon has said it won’t use. Coleman has a year to run on his Lions contract and is due to become an unrestricted free agent in 2027, according to AFL.com.au.

The deals expected to get done
North Melbourne’s Josh Goater looks set to be one of the first trades processed when the gates open at 2pm, with a later 2027 pick from Hawthorn the more likely option, AFL.com.au said. Adelaide’s Luke Pedlar is also expected to land at Port Adelaide before the deadline. AFL.com.au said the Crows would prefer a pick slide built around Pedlar, and Fox Sports gave Pedlar and pick 35 going to Port in exchange for pick 24 as an example of how that could look.
West Coast is still expected to land Melbourne premiership player Jack Viney, with a late pick the likely price. The Eagles also want his Demons teammate Trent Rivers, but AFL.com.au said that deal was moving slowly, and Fox Sports said it was possible only Viney moves this year.

Brisbane forward Will McLachlan only wants to go to Melbourne, but the Lions want more than the Demons’ offer of pick 48. Melbourne has no pick this year between No.14 and No.48, which makes a price hard to settle, according to AFL.com.au.
Pick 5 and the Magpies
Richmond is strongly placed to land Port Adelaide’s pick 5, with AFL.com.au reporting the Tigers have offered their future first-round pick plus pick 22. Tigers list boss Blair Hartley said on Tuesday the club’s view was that the pick would move during this trade window, AFL.com.au reported. Fox Sports said the Power still need more 2027 first-round picks to match likely early bids for Zemes Pilot and Louis Salopek.
Collingwood’s interest in Richmond defender Jayden Short could also run to the deadline. AFL.com.au said the Magpies had described the chase as “unlikely” and had been reluctant to offer pick 11 or pick 30, while the Tigers want something around a second-round pick for Short, who has a couple of years left on his contract.
Fox Sports’ Deadline Day blog also named Collingwood pair Jordan De Goey and Dan Houston, along with Geelong’s Sam De Koning and Gryan Miers, as potential bombshell movers, with the Magpies open for business and the Cats believed to be willing to listen to a large offer.
When the trade period closes
Trades close at 7:30pm AEDT on Wednesday 14 October. The national draft follows on Thursday 19 and Friday 20 November, with the rookie draft on Monday 23 November, according to AFL.com.au.
