Brisbane half-back Keidean Coleman has requested a trade to Essendon after meeting with new Bombers coach Mark McVeigh, AFL.com.au reported on Monday evening.
The 26-year-old told the Lions on Monday 12 October that he wanted to be traded to the Bombers, according to AFL.com.au, which reported that Essendon officials had met with Coleman over the previous 24 hours.
Coleman told Brisbane he was keen to explore a move after a challenging few seasons with his body, the report said.
AFL.com.au also reported that the Lions are maintaining a strong stance on Coleman, who is contracted and would qualify as an unrestricted free agent next year.
What Brisbane wants for Coleman
Essendon holds picks No.17, 21 and 27, along with its prized No.1 pick, to work on a deal. Rival clubs believe Brisbane would only move Coleman for a top-20 selection, according to AFL.com.au, while Zero Hanger reported the Lions would set their sights on pick 17, a selection the Bombers would not want to part with.

Coleman had been open to several landing spots, with Collingwood, Richmond and the Western Bulldogs also showing interest, AFL.com.au reported. Zero Hanger reported that his meeting with McVeigh played a crucial role in him choosing the Bombers.
Injuries cost him a premiership
A graduate of the Lions’ Academy, Coleman showed his game-changing ability across the 2023 finals series before rupturing his ACL in the first game of 2024. Ongoing injury problems over the past two seasons meant he did not become a premiership player at the club.

Zero Hanger reported that Coleman played 13 matches in 2026 but missed Brisbane’s Grand Final win over Fremantle.
The request continues a busy off-season for Essendon under McVeigh, with the Bombers having already secured Geelong midfielder Jack Bowes. The trade period closes at 7.30pm AEDT on Wednesday 14 October, so the clubs have two days to strike a deal.
