According to the Associated Press on Tuesday, the Los Angeles Rams have signed cornerback Tre’Davious White of Shreveport, Louisiana to a one-year contract worth $8.5 million. The Rams are White’s second National Football League franchise as he played the previous seven seasons from 2017 to 2023 with the Buffalo Bills. Even though White plays a different defensive position than defensive tackle Aaron Donald of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, who retired earlier this month, the signing of White should have a significant positive impact on the Rams defense as a whole.
In 2023, White only played four games with the Bills because of an Achilles tendon injury. He had 12 combined tackles (10 solo tackles and two assisted tackles), one tackle for a loss, one quarterback hit, one interception for two yards, and two pass deflections. The interception and first pass deflection came in a 37-3 Bills win over the Washington Commanders on September 24. The quarterback hit and second pass deflection came in a 48-20 Bills win over the Miami Dolphins on October 1.
The Achilles tendon injury was the second major injury for White in his career. In 2021, White tore his anterior cruciate ligament.Â
White was selected to the Pro Bowl twice while with the Bills. The first time in 2019 and the second time in 2020. In 2019, White had 58 combined tackles (48 solo tackles and 10 assisted tackles), four tackles for a loss, one quarterback hit, a NFL-high six interceptions for 57 yards, 17 pass deflections, two forced fumbles and one sack. In 2020, he had 57 combined tackles (44 solo tackles and 13 assisted tackles), three quarterback hits, two tackles for a loss, three interceptions for 28 yards, 11 pass deflections, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and one and a half sacks.
