Rain delays have been a major story over the first four days of the 2026 United States Open. As we approach play on Thursday, there are four Australians who remain in the men’s singles draw. Let’s take a look at who they are.


Alex de Minaur

The 27-year-old from Sydney is the sixth seed at the 2026 U.S. Open and is trying to get to a grand slam semifinal for the first time in his career after being 0-7 in grand slam quarterfinal matches. In the first round, de Minaur defeated Italian qualifier Andrea Guerrieri 6-2, 6-2, 6-4. Next up for de Minaur in round two is Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands. de Minaur has won all four prior meetings, including a 3-6, 7-6, 7-5 win at the Rotterdam quarterfinals in February.


Alexei Popyrin

The 27-year-old from Sydney defeated three-time grand slam semifinalist Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. Dimitrov made the final four of Wimbledon in 2014, the Australian Open in 2017, and the United States Open in 2019. Popyrin will next face Alejandro Tabilo of Chile, the 25th seed, in round two. Popyrin won their only match head-to-head. It came in the second round of the French Open in 2025, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.


Tristan Schoolkate

The 25-year-old from Perth beat Nishesh Basavareddy of the United States 7-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in round one and will play the fifth seed and 2026 French Open finalist Flavio Cobolli next. This will be their first meeting head-to-head.



Dane Sweeny

The 25-year-old from Sunshine Coast is 121st in the world. In round one,  Sweeny defeated Corentin Moutet of France, 7-6, 6-4, 3-0. In round two, Swweny will face the 13th seed Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the 2024 Wimbledon semifinalist and 2025 French Open semifinalist. Thus will be their first meeting held-to-head. Sweeny’s first grand slam singles win came in the Australian Open in January when he beat Gael Monfils of France, 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, 7-5.

There are four Australian men left in the singles draw at the 2026 United States Open at Flushing Meadows, New York. Let’s take a look at the four Australians remaining.


Alex de Minaur

The sixth ranked player in the draw, de Minaur of Sydney, defeated Andrea Guerrieri of Italy in round one, 6-2, 6-2, 6-4. de Minaur is still looking for his first grand slam semifinal as he is 0-7 in quarterfinals. In round two, de Minaur will play Botic van de Zabdschulp of the Netherlands. De Minaur is 4-0 all-time in their head-to-head meetings including a 3-6, 7-6, 7-5 win at the quarterfinals of Rotterdam.


Alexei Popyrin

Popyrin also hails from Sydney. In the first round, he defeated three-time grand slam semifinalist Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. Next up for Popyrin is the Canadian born Chilean Alejandro Tabilo. In their only prior match, Popyrin beat Tabilo 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round of the 2025 French Open.



Tristan Schoolkate

The 25-year-old qualifier from Perth beat American Nishesh Basavareddy 7-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round thanks to 25 aces. Schoolkate will have a tough opponent in round two as he faces 2026 French Open finalist Flavio Cobolli of Italy, the fifth seed. They have never played before.


Dane Sweeny

The 25-year-old from Penrith beat Corentin Moutet of France 7-6, 6-4, 3-0. A wildcard, Sweeny will also face another very difficul Italian next in Lorenzo Musetti. The 13th ranked player in the world, Musetti is a two-time grand slam semifinalist. He made the final four of Wimbledon in 2024 and the French Open in 2025. This will be their first ever meeting.
