We are only two days away from the Super Bowl. However, on Thursday it was time for the NFL to recognize regular season excellence as they announced the winners for the annual awards for 2025.
The NFL MVP went to Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matt Stafford of Tampa, Florida for the first time. This past season he led the NFL in passing yards (4707), touchdown passes (46), first downs passing (236), longest touchdown pass (88 yards), percentage of touchdowns thrown when attempting a pass (7.7), and passing yards per game (276.9). The 88 yard touchdown pass came on September 28 in a 27-20 Rams win over the Indianapolis Colts to Tutu Atwell of Miami, Florida. Stafford also led the Rams to the NFC Championship before losing to the Seattle Seahawks.
The Super Bowl finalists won awards as well. Jaxon Smith-Njigba of the Seattle Seahawks was the NFL Offensive Player of the Year, and Mike Vrabel of the New England Patriots was named the NFL Coach of the Year. Other award winners included defensive end and NFL sack leader Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns (defensive player of the year), wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan of the Carolina Panthers (offensive rookie of the year), linebacker Carson Schwesinger (defensive rookie of the year), and running back Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers (comeback player of the year).
On Sunday, the Super Bowl takes place in San Francisco. The Seahawks are a 4.5 point favourite. There is a significant question at this time if Seahawks safety Nick Emmanwori of Greensboro, North Carolina will be competing after injuring his ankle in practice on Wednesday.
