Orlando Magic tie franchise record for most consecutive wins
December 5, 2023
According to Jack Maloney of CBS Sports on Friday, the Orlando Magic tied a franchise record for most consecutive wins with nine. They defeated the Washington Wizards 130-125.
Small forward Franz Wagner of Berlin, Germany led the Magic in scoring with 31 points. He was one of five Magic players to reach double digits in scoring. The others were 2023 NBA Rookie of the Year and the first overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft Paolo Banchero of Seattle, Washington (28 points), power forward Moritz Wagner of Berlin (18 points), guard Jalen Suggs of Saint Paul, Minnesota (15 points), and forward Joe Ingles of Happy Valley, Australia (14 points). Banchero had a double-double as he added 13 rebounds.
The streak started with back-to-back wins over the Chicago Bulls. They won 96-94 on November 15 and 103-97 on November 17 in Chicago. The Magic then beat the Indiana Pacers 128-116 on November 19, the Toronto Raptors 126-107 on November 21, the Denver Nuggets 124-119 on November 22, the Boston Celtics 113-96 on November 24, the Charlotte Hornets 130-117 on November 26, and the Wizards 139-120 on November 29.
One team the Magic have had trouble with lately are the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets were the team that beat the Magic prior to Orlando’s eight-game winning streak, as Brooklyn beat Orlando 124-104 on November 14. Then on Saturday, the Nets snapped the Magic’s nine game winning streak with a convincing 129-101 win.
This is the fourth time in franchise history the Magic have won nine straight games. They also won nine straight from November 12 to December 3, 1994, January 30 to February 20, 2001, and December 23, 2010 to January 12, 2011.
The Magic meanwhile have the second best record in the Eastern Conference. They are at 14 wins and six losses, and a game and a half back of the Boston Celtics.
