New York Knicks forward and shooting guard Mikal Bridges is seeing a lot of minutes in his first season in the Big Apple since the blockbuster trade in June between the Knicks and Brooklyn Nets. In fact, Bridges leads the NBA this season with 37.8 minutes played per game.
On Wednesday of last week, Bridges made the only buzzer beater in the NBA the last nine days in a 114-113 Knicks win over the Portland Trail Blazers in overtime from the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. Bridges’s shot was from 26 feet with shooting guard Josh Hart of Silver Spring, Maryland picking up the assist. At the time of the shot, the Trail Blazers were leading the Knicks 113-111.
This was the only buzzer beater this season where the team that won the game was trailing by two points at the time of the buzzer beater shot attempt, and won the game with a three-point shot. Ironically, Hart, the player who set up Bridges’s game-winning shot, was traded to the Knicks from the Trail Blazers in a four-way deal involving the Charlotte Hornets and Philadelphia 76ers on February 9, 2023.
This was Bridges’s first buzzer beater he has made in his career, and the first buzzer beater made by a Knicks player this season. Bridges finished the game with 33 points, the second most points he has had in a game with the Knicks. The most came on Christmas Day as he scored 41 points in a 117-114 Knicks win over the San Antonio Spurs.
In 67 games in 2024-25, Bridges is averaging 17.7 points per game, 3.5 assists per game, and 3.2 rebounds per game. He has a field goal percentage of .499, a three-point percentage of .355, and a free throw percentage of .779.
The Knicks are in third place in the Eastern Conference at the moment with a record of 43 wins and 24 losses. They only trail the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics.
