The Minnesota Timberwolves entered their game against the Boston Celtics as a 10 point underdog. However, it was the Timberwolves that came through as the 10 point winner on Sunday night as they went into the Toronto Dominion Garden in Boston, Massachusetts and beat the Celtics 102-92.
It was a notable game for Timberwolves point guard Bones Hyland of Wilmington, Delaware. Hyland had 23 points off the bench and was extremely effectively for the Timberwolves offensively and defensively as he was a +26.
Hyland was one of two Timberwolves players who were very productive in a non-starting role. Center Naz Reid of Asbury Park, New Jersey, who was the 2023-24 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award winner, had 11 points and was also a +26.
Two more Timberwolves players reached double digits in scoring. Power forward Jaden McDaniels of Federal Way, Washington scored 19 points and shooting guard Ayo Dosunmu of Chicago, Illinois had 17 points.
Minnesota had two very effective quarters. They outscored Boston 33-21 in the second frame and then outscored Boston by 11 points again, 26-15 in the final frame.
When you take a look at the standings, the fact that Boston was a 10 point favourite to begin with might have been a significant head scratcher. That is because the records for the Celtics and Timberwolves heading into the contest were very similar. Boston was at 47 wins and 23 losses, while Minnesota was at 43 wins and 28 losses.
The reason why the Timberwolves were a 10 point underdog was because their All-Star shooting guard Anthony Edwards of Atlanta, Georgia was out with a knee injury. The 2020 first overall pick  leads the Timberwolves with 29.5 points per game.
