LIV rejects John Daly’s request to join the tour

According to Matt Vincenzi of golfwrx.com on Tuesday, two-time major champion John Daly of Carmichael, California attempted to join the new LIV Golf Tour, but had his application rejected. In an interview with Piers Morgan of TalkTV, Daly even “begged Greg Norman to be on the LIV Tour,” but was unable to get his application accepted.

Daly is a supporter of the LIV Tour because in his opinion, players are fairly compensated. Through this tour, all players receive a pay cheque every single week. That is currently not the case with the PGA Tour because only players who make the cut earn a wage. There is no cut on the LIV Tour as it is 54 holes and a three-day event rather than a four-hole tournament.

There has been a lot of criticism about the amount of money players are currently getting paid on the LIV Tour. Henrik Stenson of Sweden won $4 million this past weekend winning the Bedminster event in New Jersey. Daly is a firm believer that the players deserve that money.

Another factor that apparently went against Daly was his age, as Norman believed he “was too old.” He is currently 56 years old and on the PGA Tour Champions circuit (the senior tour), where according to Daly, players currently “do not earn much.” Steven Alker of Hamilton, New Zealand has earned the most this year among all players at $2.3 million. Seven players have made $1 million or more. The others are Padraig Harrington of Northern Ireland, Jerry Kelly and Steve Stricker of the United States, Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain, Bernhard Langer of Germany and Stephen Ames of Canada.
