Bears trade number one pick to Panthers for wide receiver DJ Moore

According to Caio Miari of The Score on Friday, there was a blockbuster trade in the National Football League. The Carolina Panthers acquired the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft from the Chicago Bears for wide receiver D.J. Moore of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Bears will also receive the Panthers’s first and second round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the first round pick in 2024 and the second round pick in 2025.

The Bears will be Moore’s second NFL team. This past season he had 63 catches for 888 yards and seven touchdowns. Moore led the Panthers in receiving yards. In 80 games in his career, he has 364 catches for 5201 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Interestingly, Moore was the first round pick, 24th overall, by the Panthers in the 2018 NFL Draft. The Bears become the first National Football League franchise to trade the first overall pick since the Tennessee Titans traded the pick to the Los Angeles Rams according to Miari. The Rams selected quarterback Jared Goff out of the University of California. Goff, of Novato, California, is now the quarterback of the Detroit Lions.

It will now be interesting to see what the Panthers actually do with the first overall pick–whether or not they use it or trade it again. The general feeling is the first overall pick will be University of Alabama quarterback Bryce Young of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

This will be the second time in the history of the franchise Carolina will have the first overall pick. In 2011, the Panthers selected quarterback Cam Newton of Atlanta, Georgia out of Auburn University. Newton was the NFL Most Valuable Player in 2015.
