April 30, 2023

The Los Angeles Lakers are off to the Western Conference semifinals. On Friday, the Lakers as the seventh seed, clobbered the Memphis Grizzlies 125-85 to win the best out of seven series four games to two. With the win, the Lakers will either play the Los Angeles Clippers or the Sacramento Kings in the second round.
The Lakers win over the Grizzlies was noteworthy. That is because it was the most lopsided series clinching win in the remarkable career of LeBron James. The previous high was a 35-point Cleveland Cavaliers win over the Toronto Raptors on May 7, 2018. The Cavaliers beat the Raptors 128-93 in game four of the 2018 Eastern Conference semifinals.
Five years ago for Cleveland against Toronto, James had a double double (29 points and 11 assists). On Friday for Los Angeles against Memphis, the Akron, Ohio native was second on the Lakers in scoring with 22 points.
The Lakers meanwhile must be thrilled with the production of D’Angelo Russell of Louisville, Kentucky since acquiring him at the trade deadline from the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Russell Westbrook blockbuster. On Friday, Russell had a career-high 31 postseason points and was and outstanding +27.

Two more Lakers had double-digits in points as Anthony Davis of Chicago, Illinois had 16 points, and Austin Reaves of Newark, Arkansas had 11 points. Davis had a double-double as he added 14 rebounds.
Los Angeles won each quarter. They outscored Memphis 31-20 in the first quarter, 28-22 in the second quarter, 41-25 in the third quarter, and 25-18 in the fourth quarter.
The Kings meanwhile forced a seventh and deciding game on Sunday in Sacramento. On Friday night in San Francisco, the Kings beat the Golden State Warriors 118-99 thanks to 28 points off the bench from Malik Monk of Jonesboro, Arkansas.
