For the third time in his career, Rory McIlroy of Holywood, Northern Ireland is a FedEx Cup champion. On Sunday, he shot a fourth round score of four-under-par 66 to finish the Tour Championship at -21. He beat Masters champion Scottie Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey and Sung-jae Im of Cheongju, South Korea by one stroke each, and Olympic gold medalist Xander Schauffele of San Diego, California by three strokes.

This was McIlroy’s second PGA Tour victory of 2022. He also won the 2022 Canadian Open at St. George’s Golf and Country Club in Etobicoke, Ontario, just outside of Toronto. McIlroy previously won the Tour Championship in Atlanta in 2016 and 2019, and the Canadian Open in 2019. When McIlroy won the 2019 Canadian Open for the first time, he won the title in Hamilton.

A major reason why Scheffler was not the FedEx Cup champion in 2022, is because he fell apart in the final round on Sunday in Atlanta. He shot a score of three-over par 73, even though he was in the driver’s seat to begin the fourth round, as he was at -23 at the time.

There are nine more golf tournaments on the PGA Tour during the 2022 calendar year. However, the most notable tournament is the Presidents Cup, which will take place at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina in late September. Of the eight players who have guaranteed spots on the international squad, are two Australians. They are 2013 Masters champion Adam Scott of Adelaide and 2022 British Open champion Cameron Smith of Brisbane. It will be interesting to see if Smith is on the international team, as he has been linked to the LIV Tour.
