Golf: Three golfers that can win the 2025 RBC Canadian Open
June 5, 2025

For those who have read my work at The Sporting Base the last six years, you know I am very passionate about tennis, the NFL, golf, and the NBA. Being Canadian, the Canadian Open is very special to me. Some of my most memorable golf moments have been watching this tournament, and the victories for Tiger Woods (2000), Vijay Singh (2004), and Nick Taylor (2023) are etched in my mind. Here are the golfers I like the most this year as the Canadian Open takes place at the TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley.Â
Rory McIlroy
Yes, Scottie Scheffler is the hottest golfer on the planet, but the world number one is not playing this week. So the next best golfer who has a chance of winning in Canada is world number two Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland (+450). The five-time major champion has won the RBC Canadian Open twice. The first time in 2019, as he beat major champions Shane Lowry and Webb Simpson by seven strokes each. The second time in 2022. as he beat Tony Finau by two strokes. In these two impressive wins by McIlroy, he had a combined score of -41.
Robert MacIntyre
The calmness and composure last year of Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre (+2800) is what impressed me the most. The world number 20 won the 2024 Canadian Open with a score of -16 in winning his first of two PGA events of his career. MacIntyre followed that up with a win in Scotland last year.
Ludvig Aberg
The world number eight from Sweden has the capability of delivering this week. He won the Genesis Invitational earlier this year, and statistically has the second best chance (behind McIlroy) to get in the winner’s circle. His odds heading into the Ontario capital are +1400.
