Domantas Sabonis becomes ninth NBA player with 50 straight double-doubles

According to Keith Smith of Spotrac, Sacramento Kings star center Domantas Sabonis became the ninth player in NBA history to record 50 straight double-doubles. He accomplished the feat in a 121-111 Kings win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday. Sabonis had 25 points and 18 rebounds in the 10-point Sacramento win.

Sabonis was one of three Kings players to have a double-double in the Sacramento win. Point guard De’Aaron Fox of New Orleans, Louisiana had 23 points and 10 assists, and small forward Keegan Murray had 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Sabonis began his remarkable double-double streak on December 2, when he had 17 points and 15 rebounds in a 123-117 Kings win over the Denver Nuggets. In the 50-game streak, Sabonis has 49 games where he reached double digits in points and rebounds, and one game where he reached double digits in points and assists. The lone game in the streak where Sabonis was not in the double digits in rebounds came on January 25 when he had 18 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds in a 134-133 Kings win over the Golden State Warriors.

Also since the streak started, Sabonis has 22 triple-doubles. On February 25, Sabonis became the sixth NBA player ever with 20 triple-doubles in a season as the Kings beat the Los Angeles Clippers 123-107. In all, Sabonis has 23 triple-doubles this season, which lead the NBA. The eight players with 50 consecutive double-doubles in the past were Elgin Baylor, Walt Bellamy, Wilt Chamberlain, Elvin Hayes, Kevin Love, Jerry Lucas, Moses Malone and Bill Russell.

In 2023-24, Sabonis averaged 20.1 points per game, a NBA-high 13.7 rebounds per game, 8.3 assists per game, a field goal percentage of .609, free throw percentage of .703, three-point percentage of .411. He also leads the NBA in defensive rebounds (679), and total rebounds (915).

The Kings are sixth in the Western Conference. They have a record of 39 wins and 28 losses.
