We all know that the Indianapolis Colts have a great running game led by Jonathan Taylor of Salem, New Jersey. On Tuesday, the Colts attempted to improve their passing game by signing veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen of Greensboro, North Carolina to a one-year contract worth $8.3 million according to Jared Dubin of CBS Sports.
Allen is joining his third National Football League team. He previously played two different stints with the Chargers organization. Allen began his NFL career with the San Diego Chargers for four seasons from 2013 to 2016. He then spent seven straight seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers from 2017 to 2023, after the Chargers organization relocated within the state of California. Allen was then with the Chicago Bears in 2024, and the Los Angeles Chargers again in 2025.
In 2025, Allen had 81 catches for 777 receiving yards and four touchdowns. On November 9, Allen made Chargers franchise history. In a 25-10 Chargers win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, Allen set the Chargers record for most receptions in a career with 956. At the end of the season, Allen had 985 catches with the Chargers. Second on the Chargers’s list in all-time receptions is Hall of Fame tight end Antonio Gates of Detroit, Michigan, with 955 receptions. Six years ago, The Sporting Base declared Gates the second best tight end in NFL history, only behind Tony Gonzalez.
It will now be interesting to see if Allen follows Gates in the Hall of Fame conversation. He is a six-time Pro Bowler. Allen is the second former notable San Diego Charger to sign with the Colts over the last two seasons. A year ago, the Colts were dealing with quarterback injuries and signed Philip Rivers out of retirement.
