With week one just around the corner, two National Football League franchises have made interesting decisions who their starting quarterback will be. The Cleveland Browns are going with Joe Flacco over Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, Shedeur Sanders and DeShaun Watson. The Indianapolis Colts are going with Daniel Jones over Anthony Richardson.
Flacco, who is 40 years old, is about to be the starting quarterback for a second time in Cleveland. Two years ago Flacco was brought in to be the Browns quarterback because Watson broke a bone in his throwing his shoulder against the Baltimore Ravens. This year it is also because of an injury. Watson reportedly ruptured his Achilles tendon twice (once while playing) and is expected to be gone for the entire year. He was recently seen on a yacht in the French Riviera with his fiancee, so it appears football is not at the forefront of his find.
When Flacco quarterbacked the Browns two years ago, he won four of five starts, completed 123 of 240 passes for 1616 passing yards, with 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Flacco then joined the Colts last season before signing a one-year deal worth $4.25 million in Cleveland.
Jones signed with the Vikings during the season last year to backup Sam Darnold after being released by the New York Giants. With New York, he completed 216 passes in 341 attempts for 2070 passing yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. Jones also had 67 rushes for 265 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. In the offseason, there was actually some speculation that the Giants would give Jones the starting job when they signed him to a one-year deal worth $14 million–a hefty signing if a player was to be the backup.
