Chargers trade cornerback J.C. Jackson to the Patriots
October 6, 2023

According to Logan Ulrich of NFL Trade Rumors, the Los Angeles Chargers and New England Patriots made a trade on Wednesday. The Chargers dealt cornerback J.C. Jackson of Immokale, Florida to the Patriots with a seventh round pick in the 2025 National Football League Draft for a sixth round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Jackson is actually returning to the Patriots. He was previously with them from 2018 to 2021. In 2023 with the Chargers, Jackson has played in two games. He has three solo tackles, one interception for nine yards, and three pass deflections.
In Jackson’s career, he has played in 69 NFL career games. He has 176 tackles (144 solo tackles and 32 assisted tackles), four tackles for a loss, one quarterback hit, 26 interceptions for 229 yards, one interception for a touchdown, 58 pass deflections, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries. When Jackson was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2021, he led the NFL in pass deflections with 23. He also had 58 combined tackles (44 solo tackles and 14 assisted tackles), two tackles for a loss, eight interceptions for 92 yards, one pick six for 88 yards, and one forced fumble. The interception return for a touchdown came in a 24-6 Patriots win over the Carolina Panthers on November 7, 2021, and the forced fumble came in a 36-13 Patriots win over the Tennessee Titans on November 28, 2021.
One reason why Jackson could have been traded by the Chargers is because he is facing legal trouble from a traffic incident two years ago. He did not play the last two games with the Chargers. Jackson came to the Chargers in the offseason around the same time they acquired Khalil Mack. We all know how amazing Mack was for the Chargers against the Las Vegas Raiders last week. The Patriots were in need of a cornerback because rookie cornerback Christian Gonzalez of Carrollton, Texas tore his labrum and is out for the year following a 38-3 Patriots loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
