There was a blockbuster trade in the National Basketball Association on Wednesday between the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers. The Celtics have sent small forward Jaylen Brown of Mariretta, Georgia to the 76ers for power forward Paul George of Palmdale, California according to Chris Cwik of Yahoo! Sports. In addition to George, the Celtics are receiving four draft picks. They are the first round pick in the 2028 and 2031 NBA Drafts and the second round picks in the 2028 and 2030 NBA Drafts.
Brown is joining his second NBA team after 10 seasons with the Celtics, after which he was an All-Star on five occasions and was the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player when the Celtics won the 2024 NBA Finals. In 2025-26, Brown averaged 28.7 points per game, 6.9 rebounds per game, 5.1 assists per game and one steal per game. He had a field goal percentage of .477, three point percentage of .347 and a free throw percentage of .795. Brown led the NBA with 736 field goals made.
George is joining his fifth NBA franchise. He was with the Indiana Pacers for seven seasons from 2010 to 2017, the Oklahoma City Thunder for two seasons from 2017 to 2019, the Los Angeles Clippers for five seasons from 2019 to 2024, and the 76ers for two seasons from 2024 to 2026.
A nine-time NBA All-Star, George was the NBA’s most improved player while with the Pacers in 2012-13. He also led the NBA in steals per game (2.2) and total steals in a season (170) while with the Thunder in 2018-19.
In 2025-26, George averaged 17.3 points per game, 5.3 rebounds per game, 3.6 assists per game, and 1.7 steals per game. He had a field goal percentage of .439, three point percentage of .392 and a free throw percentage of .820.
