Four-time major champion Brooks Koepka of West Palm Beach, Florida is the leader after the third round of the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York. He is currently at -6 and has a one stroke lead over Norwegian Viktor Hovland and Canadian Corey Conners.
On Saturday, Koepka shot a third round score of four-under-par 66 for the second straight round. He had five birdies and one bogey. Koepka birdied the fourth, fifth, 12th, 13th, and 17th holes, and bogeyed the seventh hole.
In round two on Friday, Koepka also had five birdies and one bogey. All five of his birdies and one bogey came on the back nine as he birdied the 10th, 12th, 15th, 17th and 18th holes and bogeyed the 11th hole. The back-to-back rounds of four-under-par came after Koepka shot a two-over-par on Thursday.
This is the second straight major where Koepka has been leading after the third round. At the Masters last month, Koepka was the leader at -11, and had a two stroke lead over the eventual champion, Jon Rahm.
In a post round interview with CBS, Koepka discussed his mindset and how things will be different in the fourth round at the PGA Championship than at the Masters. Koepka’s four previous major titles came at the 2017 and 2018 United States Opens, and the 2018 and 2019 PGA Championships.
One more golfer is still in contention after 54 holes. That is Bryson DeChambeau of Modesto, California, the 2020 United States Open champion, who is there strokes back at -3.
