Brooks Koepka joining the LIV Tour
June 22, 2022

Another big name in golf is about to join the LIV Tour. According to the Associated Press on Tuesday, Brooks Koepka, the four-time major champion, will be joining his brother Chase, in the 48-player league funded by Saudi Arabia.
The timing of Koepka’s decision is rather interesting. It came two days after Matt Fitzpatrick of Great Britain won the 2022 United States Open. Prior to the U.S. Open, Koepka refused to answer any questions about the LIV Tour because he did not want to deflect any attention away from the third major of the year in men’s golf.
It should also be worth mentioning that Koepka is following in the footsteps of American golf star Bryson DeChambeau, the 2020 United States Open champion. DeChambeau also is Koepka’s biggest rival over the last couple of years. DeChambeau announced his intention on joining the LIV Tour earlier this month.
Koepka of West Palm Beach, Florida is 32 years old and is currently ranked 19th in the world. The four majors he has won are the 2017 and 2018 United States Open and 2018 and 2019 PGA Championship.
Another player who might soon follow Koepka is Mexico’s Abraham Ancer. He believes joining the LIV Tour could improve the globalization of golf to a greater extent. Ancer has one significant title to his name. That was the 2021 World Golf Championship-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, where he beat 2021 Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama of Matsuyama, Japan and American Sam Burns in a playoff. The next LIV golf event is scheduled for Portland, Oregon the weekend of July 2.
