The New York Knicks are two wins away from winning the 2026 NBA Finals. On Friday night at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 105-104 to take the two games to none lead in the best out of seven series.
The game came down to a missed shot by Spurs star center Victor Wembanyama. There was no time left after Wembanyama’s shot, and as a result, the Spurs find themselves down two games to none. New York won the first game of the series 105-95. The series now shifts to Madison Square Garden with the Knicks in complete control. All the Knicks have to do now is win two of their three home games in the series to win their first NBA Finals since 1973.
The Knicks star on Friday was center Karl-Anthony Towns of Edison, New Jersey. Towns had the double-double as he had 21 points and 13 rebounds. Four more Knicks players reached double digits in points. Small forward Mikal Bridges of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and point guard Jalen Brunson of New Brunswick, New Jersey had 20 points each, power forward OG Anunoby of London, Great Britain had 17 points and shooting guard Landry Shamet of Kansas City, Missouri had 13 points off the bench.
New York had their game-winning shot on a fee throw by Brunson with 9.5 seconds left in the game. Brunson then missed his next free throw attempt, which gave the Spurs a chance for the victory.
Towns now has 43 postseason double-doubles in his career. Game three of the series is Monday. The two-day break between game two and three will give tennis commentator and former tennis star John McEnroe an opportunity to return to New York to attend the game after calling the men’s final at the French Open on Sunday between Germany’s Alexander Zverev and Italy’s Flavio Cobolli for TNT.
