Mirra Andreeva of Krasnoyarsk, Russia has won the women’s singles tournament at the 2026 French Open. On Saturday at Roland Garros, Andreeva defeated Maja Chwalinska of Poland, 6-3, 6-2, in the final of the second grand slam of the tennis season. This was Andreeva’s first major title of her career.
Andreeva, the eighth seed, was the heavy favourite heading into the final. The betting odds were at -482. Chwalinska, ranked 114th in the world and was a qualifier, was at +355.
However, there was a belief by many that Chwalinska had an opportunity because of the players she beat to reach the French Open final. They included Qinwen Zheng, Elise Mertens, Maria Sakkari and Diana Shnaider.
In Saturday’s final, Andreeva broke Chwalinska seven times in 12 opportunities. Chwalinska was unable to record an ace, and only won 20% of the total points on her second serve. Andreeva, meanwhile won 67% of the total points on her second serve.
Andreeva only lost one set throughout the tournament. That came in the second round when she beat Spanish qualifier Marina Bassols Ribera, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.
In Andreeva’s seven French Open victories, three match wins came over seeded opponents. She beat 27th ranked Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic, 6-4, 6-2 in the third round, 18th ranked Sorana Cirstea of Romania, 6-0, 6-3 in the quarterfinals, and 15th ranked Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine, 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinals. In a wide open draw with lots of upsets, Andreeva never had to face a top 10 player in the entire 2026 French Open.
Andreeva is the fourth Russian woman to win in singles at the French Open. She follows Anastasia Myskina of Moscow (2004), Svetlana Kuznetsova of Leningrad (2009), and Maria Sharapova of Nyagan (2012 and 2014).
