EXCITING staying prospect, the regally owned Gilded Water, is expected to get his campaign which is aimed at the Melbourne Cup back on track at Caulfield after a first-up hiccup recently.
Last week Gilded Water’s trainer Ciaron Maher and his mother Eileen were in the Royal Carriage at Royal Ascot as guests of Gilded Water’s owner King Charles 111.
Maher’s mother has built a rapport with the King so much so that they are pen pals.
Gilded Water, who finished third in The Bart Cummings and second in the Geelong Cup last spring, resumed with a ninth placing over 1800m at Sandown Hillside on May 23.

On that occasion he went forward but was beaten a long way out but there was an excuse as he suffered an EIPH (exercise-induced pulmonary haemorrhage).
Maher’s stable spokesman Leigh Allen told Racing.com that Gilded Water had recovered from this and would be at his best when he contests the 2000m Handicap.
Allen said they had kept a close eye on Gilded Water and how he recovered from his training gallops.
He said they were confident about his prospects on Saturday.
Maher has trained the winner of this race for the last three years. Last year it was won by Sayetady Sadaty who during the spring won the Bendigo Cup.
Gilded Water is a $3.60 favourite with Unibet and will be ridden by Ben Allen.
The late June meeting at Caulfield has a habit of unveiling horses who go on and win big races.
During the past five years G1 winners such as Jigsaw, Baraqiel and Chain Of Lightning were successful at the meeting.
Another interesting runner who could make an impact in better races is Mick Price and Michael Kent Junior’s European import Think Giant, who is owned by OTI Racing, who is making his Australian debut in the Benchmark 78 (1700m) Handicap.
Although he has won two recent jump-outs at Cranbourne, Kent Junior pointed out that those races weren’t very strong.

Think Giant, is a $7 chance with Unibet and will be ridden by Thomas Stockdale.
