The Milwaukee Bucks have traded power forward Giants Antetokounmpo of Athens, Greece to the Miami Heat according to the Associated Press on Tuesday. This is a blockbuster trade in every sense of the word. In addition to Antetokounmpo, the Heat are receiving power forward Bobby Portis Jr. of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Now it will take a complete paragraph to explain what the Bucks are getting in return. Milwaukee receives All-Star shooting guard Tyler Herro of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, small forward Jaime Jaquez Jr. of Irvine, California, center Kel’el Ware of Little Rock, Arkansas, guard Kasparas Jakucionis of Vilnius, Lithuania, a first round pick in 2026, a first round pick in 2031, a first round pick in 2033, a second round pick in 2033, and a pick swap in 2030.
Let’s not kid ourselves, the face of the deal is Antetokounmpo, who is joining his second franchise after 13 years in Milwaukee. The 10-time All-Star was the NBA MVP twice in 2019 and 2020. He also was the NBA’s most improved player in 2016-17, the NBA’s best defensive player in 2019-20, and won the NBA Finals with the Bucks in 2021 where he was the NBA Finals MVP.
Statistically, Antetokounmpo averaged 27.6 points per game in 2025-26. He had 9.8 rebounds per game and 5.4 assists per game, with a field goal percentage of .624, three point percentage of .333 and a free throw percentage of .650. Twice Antetokounmpo led the NBA in most defensive rebounds per game in a season. He had 11.4 in 2019-20, and 9.6 in 2022-23.
Portis is joining his fifth NBA team after four seasons with the Chicago Bulls (2015 to 2019), one season with the Washington Wizards (2019), one season with the New York Knicks (2019-20), and six seasons with the Bucks (2020 to 2026). In 2025-26, Portis averaged 13.7 points per game, 6.4 rebounds per game, and 1.6 assists per game. He had a field goal percentage of .488, three point percentage of .456, and free throw percentage of .706. Portis also won the NBA Finals with the Bucks in 2021.
Herro spent the last seven seasons in Miami. He was the NBA’s sixth man of the year in 2021-22 and an All-Star in 2024-25. During 2025-26, Herro averaged 20.5 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game and 4.1 assists per game. He had a field goal percentage of .480, three point percentage of .378, and a free throw percentage of .917. Herro’s .934 free throw percentage in 2022-23 led the NBA.
Jaquez Jr. spent the last three seasons in Miami. In 2025-26, he averaged 15.4 points per game, five rebounds per game, and 4.7 assists per game. Jaquez Jr. had a field goal percentage of .507, three point percentage of .317 and free throw percentage of .769.
Ware spent the last two seasons in Miami. In 2025-26, he averaged 11.1 points per game, nine rebounds per game, and 1.1 blocks per game. Ware had a field goal percentage of .530, three point percentage of .395, and a free throw percentage of .740.
