Frances Tiafoe of Hyattsville, Maryland has won the 2026 Halle Open in Germany. On Sunday, Tiafoe defeated Taylor Fritz of the United States 6-4, 6-4 in all-American battle. This was the first all-American final in the history of the Halle Open. Actually, in the history of the Halle Open, only one American had ever reached the final. That was Mardy Fish of Edina, Minnesota, who was steamrolled by grass court specialist Roger Federer of Switzerland, 6-0, 6-3 in 2004.
In the final, Tiafoe had better success than Fritz while serving. Tiafoe won 91% of his first serve points and 73% of his second serve points. Fritz won 75% of his first serve points and 50% of his second serve points. Tiafoe also broke Fritz’s serve once in each set.
Fritz, who was seeded sixth, was one of two seeded players Tiafoe defeated in the Halle Open. The other was Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada, the second seed, who Tiafoe beat in the quarterfinals, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6. In a third set tiebreak, Tiafoe defeated Auger-Aliassime, 14-12.
Zverev, was the number one seed heading into the Halle Open, and had lots of confidence, having won the French Open earlier this month. However, Zverev lost to Fritz in the semifinals, 6-7, 6-4, 7-5. Both semifinals in Halle had matchups featuring an American and a German. In the other semifinal, Tiafoe defeated Daniel Altmaier, 6-1, 6-3.
Tiafoe has now won four ATP titles. He previously won the 2019 Delray Beach Open, the 2023 United States Men’s Clay Court Championship and the 2023 Stuttgart Open.
