The New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles were not the only team to pull off a National Football League blockbuster deal on Monday. The Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Rams did as well. According to the Associated Press, the Browns traded defensive end Myles Garrett of Arlington, Texas to the Rams for outside linebacker Jared Verse of Dayton, Ohio and three draft picks. The Browns will be receiving the first round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, second round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, and third round pick in the 2029 NFL Draft.
Garrett and Verse are elite defenders in the National Football League. Garrett has been selected to seven Pro Bowls over the last eight years, and was the Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year in 2023 and 2025. This past season, Garrett set the NFL record for most sacks in a season with 23. He accomplished the feat in a 20-18 Browns win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Garrett also led the NFL in tackles for a loss for the second straight season. He had 22 tackles for a loss in 2024 and 33 tackles for a loss in 2025. Verse was the Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2024 and has been selected to the Pro Bowl the last two years.
This past season, Garrett had 60 combined tackles (43 solo tackles and 17 assisted tackles), 39 quarterback hits, one pass deflection and three forced fumbles. Meanwhile in 2025, Verse had 58 combined tackles (35 solo tackles and 23 assisted tackles), 11 tackles for a loss, 27 quarterback hits, one pass deflection, three forced fumbles and 7.5 sacks. The pass deflection came in a 21-19 Rams win over the Seattle Seahawks on November 16.
