Friday’s list lodgement deadline has capped a busy round of AFL delistings in 2026, with all 18 clubs cutting players and several committing to bring theirs straight back through the draft.
St Kilda and Gold Coast made the final big calls before Friday’s list lodgement deadline. The Saints delisted Dan Butler and Ryan Byrnes but have committed to picking both up again at next month’s draft. Byrnes played the final 15 games of 2026 in the senior side, while Butler featured 10 times across the season, Fox Sports reported.
“We’ve had several positive conversations with Ryan and Dan since the end of the season and made it clear we’re committed to re-selecting them,” Saints general manager Lenny Hayes said in a club statement. “They have both been valued members of our program for several seasons.”
Gold Coast delisted former No.1 pick Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and tall utility Elliott Himmelberg, with the Suns committed to re-drafting both at the national draft. Midfielder Ben Jepson earned a one-year contract extension.
They are not the only players handed a lifeline. Brisbane’s Koby Evans and Luke Lloyd, Collingwood’s Harry DeMattia, Fremantle’s Jaren Carr and Western Bulldog Riley Garcia have all been delisted with their clubs committed to re-drafting them in the rookie draft.

Players who have been cut and not committed to a re-draft can look for a new club in the delisted free agency period, which runs from 9am AEDT on Monday, 2 November until 5pm AEDT on Friday, 6 November. The national draft follows on 19 and 20 November.
