Richmond has delisted Tyler Sonsie, Samson Ryan and James Trezise, telling the trio they will not be offered list spots for the 2027 AFL season as the Tigers continue a major list overhaul.
The club confirmed the cuts on Friday, with AFL.com.au reporting the same three names in its coverage of Richmond’s ongoing list rebuild.
Who was cut
Sonsie, a midfielder/forward taken with pick 28 in the 2021 national draft, played 55 games across five seasons. He managed 15 matches in 2026 and averaged 16.3 disposals, his highest return since debut year.
Trezise was promoted from Richmond’s VFL program in the 2023 mid-season draft and played 38 senior games, including 14 this season. The 24-year-old averaged 16 disposals in 2026, according to the club.
Ryan, a ruck/forward selected with pick 40 in the 2020 draft, made 31 senior appearances as backup to Toby Nankervis and kicked 17 career goals. The 25-year-old Queenslander came through Brisbane’s Academy pathway after a Toowoomba Grammar cricket scholarship.
Club thanks the trio
Richmond executive general manager of football talent Blair Hartley thanked all three players.
“We thank Tyler, James and Samson for their efforts across their time with the Club,” Hartley said. “Each gave their all across multiple years with us, and we wish them well for their future pursuits on and off the field.”
What it means next
The delistings open further list spots as Richmond reshapes for 2027. Sonsie, Ryan and Trezise can now explore free agency, the mid-season draft or opportunities elsewhere once their Richmond tenure formally ends.
