West Coast have delisted small forward Matt Owies with a year still to run on his contract, ending his time at the Eagles after just two seasons.
The club confirmed on Wednesday that Owies will not be on its playing list for 2027, with the 29-year-old expected to head home to Victoria.
Owies crossed from Carlton at the end of 2024 on a three-year deal but played only 19 games and kicked nine goals for West Coast. He managed just three senior games this season.
According to The West Australian, he spent most of 2026 in the WAFL, where he played 13 games and kicked 20 goals.
What the Eagles said
West Coast head of list management and recruiting Matt Clarke said the move followed talks with Owies and his management.

“During ongoing discussions with Matt and his management group, Matt had been open to his time at West Coast coming to an end and moving back to Victoria,” Clarke said.
“On behalf of the club, I would like to thank Matt for his contribution over the past two years. We wish him nothing but the best for the future.”
Owies thanked the club and backed coach Andrew McQualter.
“I have loved my time here and know the guys are going in the right direction under Mini,” Owies said. “It obviously hasn’t worked out like we hoped but that’s life and I wish the club nothing but success.”

Another list change at West Coast
Owies finishes with 91 AFL games and 98 goals, including 33 goals in 2024. AFL.com.au reported that he joins Harry Barnett, Tyler Brockman, Clay Hall, Harvey Johnston, Harry Schoenberg and Jack Williams in leaving the club this off-season, along with the retired Jamie Cripps.
The Eagles are rebuilding after a four-win season. They brought in former Melbourne captain Jack Viney and Trent Rivers on deadline day of the trade period, and the extra list spot comes before next month’s national draft, where West Coast hold pick 3.
