Aaron Rai of Wolverhampton, England has won his first PGA Tour tournament. On Sunday, Rai shot a four round score of -18 and beat American Max Greyserman of Short Hills, New Jersey by two strokes to win the 2023 Wyndham Championship at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. Other golfers in contention were American J.J. Spaun of of Los Angeles, California and Japan’s Ryo Hisatsune. Both Spaun and Hisatsune were tied for third place and three strokes back at -15.

Rai was victorious with four very strong rounds of golf. He was at five-under-par in round one, five-under-par in round two, two-under-par in round three, and six-under-par in the round four. Rai did not have a  bogey in the final round as he birdied the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, 12th, and 18th holes.

Rai’s most success came on the 15th holes in round one and round two. There he posted a score of eagle as he shot a score of three on a par five.

With the win, Rai moves up to 22nd place in the Official World Golf Rankings. The only golfer from England higher than Rai is Tommy Fleetwood of Southport, who is 11th in the world.

Rai is one of two English golfers to win on the PGA Tour in 2024. The other is Harry Hall of Camborne, who won the ISCO Championship in Kentucky last month.

The Wyndham Championship was the last PGA Tour event before the FedEx Cup Playoffs, which begins Thursday in Tennessee. The defending FedEx Cup champion is Viktor Hovland of Norway.
