Wyndham Clark of Denver, Colorado had a comfortable lead after the first day of the 126th edition of the 2026 United States Open. On Friday, he maintained his four stroke lead.
Clark currently sits at -7 and has a four stroke lead on his four nearest competitors–Americans Sam Stevens and Xander Schauffele, England’s Matt Fitzpatrick, and South Korea’s Tom Kim.
It was a rather busy Friday for Clark. That is because he has to finish his first round, and complete 18 holes in the second round. The reason why the third major of the golf season was delayed a little bit is because heavy fog came into Shinnecock on Thursday morning in round one and forced the action to start two hours later than what was initially scheduled. Everything is back on schedule now and there should not be anymore significant postponements.
In the final two holes of Clark’s first round, her parred the eighth and ninth holes. Then in the second round, Clark had three birdies and two bogeys. Clark birdied the 12th, 13th, and 18th holes, and bogeyed ninth and 16th holes,
Traditionally, heavy winds have been a serious factor at Shinnecock. So far, the wind has been relatively calm, and that is a reason why we see one golfer get to seven strokes better than a par score. However, in round three, high winds are in the forecast, so expect to see high scores.
Clark will be teeing off at 3:45 PM ET. His playing partner in round three will be Fitzpatrick. Clark won the US Open in 2023.
