Warriors sign guards De’Anthony Melton and Buddy Hield

In losing small forward Klay Thompson of Los Angeles, California earlier this week in a three-way trade with the Dallas Mavericks and Charlotte Hornets, the Golden State Warriors signed two free agent guards this week. On Monday, the Warriors came to terms with shooting guard De’Anthony Melton of Los Angeles, California. Then on Friday, the Warriors signed shooting guard Buddy Hield of Freeport, Bahamas. Melton signed a one-year deal worth $12.8 million, and Hield signed a two-year contract worth $21 million according to Rogers Sportsnet.
Melton is joining his fourth National Basketball Association franchise. He previously played one season with the Phoenix Suns in 2018-19, three seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies from 2019 to 2022, and the last two seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers.
In 2023-24 with Philadelphia, Melton averaged 11.1 points per game, 3.7 rebounds, three assists per game, and 1.6 steals per game. He had a field goal percentage of .386, three-point percentage of .360, and a free throw percentage of .835.
Hield is joining his fifth NBA franchise. He was previously with the New Orleans Pelicans for one season in 2016-17, the Sacramento Kings for six seasons from 2017 to 2022, the Indiana Pacers for three seasons from 2022 to 2024, and one season with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2024. During his rookie season of 2016-17 with the Pelicans and Kings, Hield had an immediate impact in the NBA as he was named to the league’s All-Rookie Team after averaging 10.6 points per game.
In 2023-24 with Indiana and Philadelphia, Hield averaged 12.1 points per game, 3.2 rebounds per game, and 2.8 assists per game. He had a field goal percentage of .436, three-point percentage of .386, and a free throw percentage of .881.
