Victor Wembanyama has remarkable Halloween night
November 5, 2024
Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs is a rising basketball star. The first overall pick from the 2023 NBA Draft, had a game for the ages on Thursday (which just so happened to be Halloween night), as he spooked out the Utah Jazz in a 106-88 win at the Delta Center.
Webanyama, a native of Le Chesnay, France reached a minimum of five in five different categories, and silenced critics who did not select him first overall in fantasy basketball pools. It is the second time in his career he has accomplished the feat, and according to Rogers Sportsnet, is only the third player ever to do this on multiple occasions. Hall of Fame Center Hakeem Olajuwon of Lagos, Nigeria accomplished the feat six times, while forward Andrei Kirilenko of Izhevsk, Russia accomplished the feat thrice.
In the 18 point win over the Jazz, Wembanyama scored 25 points, and had nine rebounds, seven assists, five blocked shots and five steals. The first time Wembanyama had a 5×5 game came on February 23, 2024 in a 123-118 Spurs loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Wenbanyama had 27 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, five steals and five blocks.
You could argue that Wembanyama was much better against the Jazz on Thursday than he was against the Lakers in February. Why? It is because against the Jazz, he was a +43, while against the Lakers, he was zero when it came to points for and against.
In other NBA news from Halloween, we saw another great comeback to start the season. This time it was from the Phoenix Suns, who came back from a 77-56 deficit against the Los Angeles Clippers to win 125-119.
