Week seven of the 2023 National Football League regular season is now complete. Here are the top five headlines.
5) Broncos safety Kareem Jackson suspended four games.
Broncos safety Kareem Jackson of Macon, Georgia has been suspended four games for multiple violations of the National Football League’s unnecessary roughness rules. Jackson was disqualified after delivering a hit on Green Bay Packers’s tight end Luke Musgrave on Sunday in the Broncos’s 19-17 win over the Packers. This was the second time this season that Jackson was disqualified, as he was disciplined in week 2 against the Washington Commanders. So far in 2023, Jackson has 42 combined tackles (30 solo tackles and 12 assisted tackles), two interceptions for five yards and three pass deflections. The Broncos have the worst defense in the NFL. They have given up a NFL high 217 points, and the suspension comes after the team released linebacker Frank Clark.Â
4) Titans trade safety Kevin Byard to the Eagles.
Speaking of safeties, the Tennessee Titans traded safety Kevin Byard of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the Philadelphia Eagles for safety Terrell Edmunds of Danville, Virginia, and fifth and sixth round draft picks in the 2024 NFL Draft according to Kevin Patra of nfl.com on Monday.
Byard has spent the last eight seasons with the Titans. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2017 Â and 2021. In 2017, Byard led the NFL with eight interceptions. This season, Byard had 47 combined tackles (30 solo tackles and 17 assisted tackles) and one fumble recovery, which came in the 27-3 Titans win over the Cincinnati Bengals on October 1.
Edmunds spent five seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2018 to 2022, before signing with the Philadelphia Eagles on March 24. In seven games this season, Edmunds has 28 combined tackles (20 solo tackles and eight assisted tackles), and one forced fumble, which came in a 34-28 Eagles win over the Minnesota Vikings on September 14.
3) Travis Etienne Jr. makes Jaguars history.
The Jaguars running back from Jennings, Louisiana became the first running back in Jaguars history to have multiple touchdown runs in three straight games. He accomplished the feat with touchdown rushes of two and 17 yards in a 31-24 win over the New Orleans Saints on Thursday. Etienne Jr. also had touchdown runs of six yards and 35 yards in a 25-20 win over the Buffalo Bills on October 8 in London, England, and touchdown runs of two yards and 22 yards in a 37-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts on October 15.
