December 17, 2025
We are now 15 weeks into the National Football League season. Here are the top five headlines from the week that was.Â
5) Jets fire defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.
Steve Wilks’s time in New York did not last a full season. The former head coach of the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers was initially hired by the Jets on February 1 when Aaron Glenn was named the Jets head coach. Things have not worked well for New York in trying to prevent points from being scored. They have given up 399 points, the third most in the NFL this season, including 48 last week in a 48-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
4) Lions and Rams play to an offensive slugfest.
In one of the most intriguing games of the weekend, the Los Angeles Rams beat the Detroit Lions 41-34 in a game that saw 75 points scored. The Rams offensive star was wide receiver Puka Nacua, who had nine catches for 181 receiving yards. The Rams are now 11-3 and number one in the NFC.
3) Ravens and Eagles deliver shutouts.
It has been a challenge for the Ravens and Eagles defensively this season at times. But both defenses were great on Sunday as hey delivers shutouts. Baltimore blanked Cincinnati 24-0, and Philadelphia blanked Las Vegas 31-0.
2) Chiefs are out.
Kansas City lost 16-13 to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. As a result, the Chiefs have missed the playoffs after making them for 10 consecutive seasons.
1) Two superstars tear their ACL.
The news got worse for the Chiefs. That is because Patrick Mahomes went down with a serious knee injury that will force him to miss a significant part of the 2026 season. Meanwhile, Packers defensive end Micah Parsons also tore his ACL and is gone for the season.
