Tom Brady Vs Patrick Mahomes
February 5, 2021
When the Super Bowl takes place on Sunday, history will be made. The age gap of 18 years between the 43-year-old Tom Brady and the 25-year-old Patrick Mahomes will be the largest gap between starting quarterbacks in National Football League history according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.
Brady already has the record for most Super Bowl appearances (nine), Super Bowl wins (six), and Super Bowl most valuable player awards (four). There is a reason why we have declared him as the greatest football player of all-time.
However, at 43 years of age, father time has even caught up to the G.O.A.T. In the last two Buccaneers games, Brady was ordinary. He was unable to reach 200 yards passing in a 30-20 Buccaneers win over the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Divisional Playoff, and then threw three interceptions in the Buccaneers’ 31-26 win over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship.
Mahomes meanwhile reached the Super Bowl despite suffering a concussion in the AFC Divisional Playoff against the Cleveland Browns. In the AFC Championship, Mahomes provided the Chiefs with exceptional poise at the quarterback position. He completed 29 of 38 passes for 325 yards, and three touchdowns.
However, another major difference between Brady and Mahomes in the conference championships came down to their decision-making skills. Mahomes had zero interceptions.
Even though Mahomes is 18 years younger than Brady, and may lack Brady’s overall wisdom, one must also remember it is Mahomes who is the reigning Super Bowl Most Valuable Player, and it is the Chiefs who are the reigning Super Bowl champions.
