The Seattle Seahawks were busy with announcements this past week. On Friday, guard J.R. Sweezy of Mooresville, North Carolina became the third Seahawks player to retire in three days, as he followed running back Chris Carson of Biloxi, Mississippi on Wednesday and linebacker K.J. Wright of Memphis, Tennessee on Thursday, according to Kole Musgrove of USA Today.

Carson, played five seasons with the Seahawks from 2017 to 2021. This past season he had 54 rushes for 232 yards, and three rushing touchdowns. Carson also had six rushes for 29 yards. He retired at the age of 27 because of a neck injury he suffered in the fourth week of the 2021 NFL season.

In his career, Carson had 769 rushes for 3502 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also had 107 catches for 804 yards and seven touchdowns. In back-to-back seasons, Carson reached 1000 yards in rushing. He had 1151 yards in 2018, and 1230 yards in 2019.

Wright retired as a Seahawk even though he played 17 games with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021. Last year he played 17 games and had 51 combined tackles (26 assisted tackles and 25 solo tackles), and two tackles for a loss.

For Wright’s career he played a decade with the Seahawks before a season in Las Vegas. In 161 career NFL games from 2011 to 2021, he had 992 combined tackles (618 solo tackles and 374 assisted tackles), 68 tackles for a loss, 27 quarterback hits, six interceptions for 42 yards, 54 pass deflections, 11 forced fumbles, 13.5 sacks, and nine fumble recoveries for 30 yards. Wright, who was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2016, retired at the age of 33.

Like Wright, Sweezy also signed a one-day contract, and retired at the age of 33. He played with the Seahawks from 2012 to 2015 and again in 2018. Sweezy also played with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2016 and 2017, and Arizona Cardinals in 2019 and 2020. Wright and Sweezy were also Seahawks who won the 2014 Super Bowl.

The Seahawks meanwhile are in a stage of rebuilding. In the offseason, they traded their star quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos.
