Three interesting trades in the NFL one week before start of the season

The 2024 National Football League regular season commences in nine days. However, over the last 24 hours, there were three trades. On Monday, the Jacksonville Jaguars traded linebacker Trevis Gipson of Cedar Hill, Texas to the Seattle Seahawks for a sixth round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Rams traded linebacker Ernest Jones of Waycross, Georgia to the Tennessee Titans with a sixth round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft for a fifth round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Also on Tuesday, the Titans traded quarterback Malik Willis of College Park, Georgia to the Green Bay Packers for a seventh round draft pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Trevis Gipson

Gipson never played for the Jaguars. He signed as a free agent by Jacksonville on March 18. He previously played three seasons with the Chicago Bears from 2020 to 2022, before one season with the Titans in 2023. This past season, Gipson had six combined tackles (one solo tackle and face assisted tackles), one forced fumble and one sack. The sack, solo tackle, and  forced fumble came in a 27-3 Titans win over the Cincinnati Bengals on October 1.

Ernest Jones

Jones has played the last three seasons with the Rams. This past season he had 145 combined tackles (74 solo tackles and 71 assisted tackles), 14 tackles for a loss, six quarterback hits, six pass deflections, and 4.5 sacks. Jones was on the Rams franchise that won the Super Bowl in 2022. In Super Bowl LVI, he had seven combined tackles (six solo tackles and one assisted tackle), three quarterback hits, two tackles for a loss, one pass deflection and one sack.

Malik Willis

Willis played the last two seasons as a backup quarterback in Tennessee. He completed 35 of 66 passes for 350 passing yards, and three interceptions. Willis also had 32 rushes for 144 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.
