ADRIAN Bott is happy to back in Miss Chanel’s power of recovery and class when she tackles Victoria’s second richest two-year-old event, the $1 million The Showdown (1200m), a week after running in the Reisling Stakes at Rosehill.
The Bott and Gai Waterhouse-trained Miss Chanel’s talent was on display in that race as she finished third behind the smart filly Chayan, who is a leading chance in the Golden Slipper Stakes.
Bott speaking on SEN’s Giddy Up said Miss Chanel had come through last Saturday’s run without a problem.
“The quick back-up was a concern, but she came through the run well. She was lovely and bright on Sunday morning and during the week she has just cantered around,” Bott said.
“We’re happy to give her that opportunity. She’s been very consistent and hopefully she can reproduce what she has been showing,” Bott said.
Miss Chanel has had four starts for a second, two thirds and a fourth.
Miss Chanel is the $3.50 favourite with Unibet. Second favourite is the unraced Mick Price and Michael Kent-trained Written Tycoon colt Phillip Island, who has looked brilliant in his trials and jump-outs.
Rejuvenated sprinter Jigsaw returns to Australia when he contests the VOBIS Gold Sprint (1200m) at Caulfield after he achieved his first Group 1 win when he took out the Railway Stakes at Ellerslie.
Jigsaw is the $3.10 favourite in the final event at Caulfield, the VOBIS Gold Sprint (1200m).
Gigsaw is aiming for four wins in a row, and his trainer, Cindy Alderson, said it’s a nice race for him.
“It’s a good race with the VOBIS add-ons plus the weight. It was too good to bypass,” Alderson said on SEN’s Giddy Up.
Alderson said Jigsaw could back up in the G1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield the following Saturday.
The feature race is the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) in which Chris Waller has the two favourites Buckaroo and Birdman, who are both heading to the Australian Cup on March 28.
